I coined the term Side in 2013 to describe gay men who prefer outercourse over intercourse. They aren’t tops, and they aren’t bottoms—they’re sides.

My book, Side Guys, explores the experiences of these men and challenges the idea that sex must involve penetration to be valid or intimate.

While bottoms have long been shamed in gay male culture, today, sides face a new wave of misunderstanding and marginalization. This book aims to break that stigma and affirm the legitimacy of all forms of sexual expression.
