Erica McMurtry Presents: EMDR Therapy
Thursday, November 6th, 2025 | 12pm – 1 pm

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) is a structured, evidence-based psychotherapy approach primarily used to treat individuals who have experienced a traumatic or extremely distressful event. This therapy involves moving your eyes a specific way while you process your traumatic memories. Therapists may use this approach with people of all ages – from adolescents to older adults. Many clients prefer this therapeutic method because they don’t have to talk in detail about the trauma from their past. EMDR focuses on changing emotions, thoughts or behaviors that have resulted from the distressing experience, allowing the brain to begin a natural healing process. EMDR is considered a best practice for treating veterans living with PTSD.
Erica will discuss:
- What if traumatic memories remain unresolved and unprocessed?
- How EMDR works
- What mental health conditions can be treated effectively using EMDR
- The advantages of using EMDR
- What happens in an EMDR session
- Who can benefit from EMDR
“Sometimes clients know very clearly the triggering event that is causing their distress, but sometimes they may exhibit unexplained symptoms – they can’t sleep, they are short-tempered, or they are unusually emotional, for example. Our job as therapists is to help clients figure out what is going on and find a therapeutic approach that will help them heal,” McMurty explains.
The webinar is open to therapists, educators, the general public, and anyone who wants to learn more about EMDR.
Participants may ask questions via chat during the webinar. McCurty will answer these following her presentation.
